As a Legal Counsel R&D & Business Contracts (with IP focus), you provide pragmatic legal guidance across the full R&D project lifecycle, enabling the business while safeguarding imec\u2019s IP and managing risk.<\/em><\/p>\n

What you will do<\/h4>\n

You will be an integral part of imec\u2019s dynamic Legal Office, working in close partnership with our business teams. At imec, we collaborate with a diverse array of partners and operate at the forefront of technological innovation across multiple sectors. You will be assigned to one of these sectors, joining a cross\u2011functional business team that drives and lands both business and funded opportunities\u2014with a strong focus on safeguarding imec\u2019s intellectual property while ensuring compliance and protection of imec\u2019s rights and obligations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You will draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of\u00a0R&D\u2011driven and commercial contracts<\/strong>, with particular attention to\u00a0IP\u2011related provisions<\/strong>. These include research collaboration agreements, program partnership agreements, license deals, feasibility studies, development and technology transfer agreements, as well as grant and consortium contracts.<\/p>\n

Throughout the intake, contracting, and execution phases of R&D projects, you will provide\u00a0pragmatic legal advice<\/strong>, balancing business objectives with\u00a0robust IP protection and risk management.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You will collaborate closely with imec\u2019s business teams and with internal\u00a0IP and compliance experts<\/strong>, covering essential areas such as intellectual property strategy, data management, privacy, and export control.<\/p>\n

To stay ahead, you will continuously build and maintain expertise in key legal domains, including\u00a0contract law, IP law, competition law, commercial law<\/strong>, and national and international funding regulations. You will also contribute to the development and updating of template agreements and standard clauses, ensuring alignment with imec\u2019s IP strategy, internal policies, and evolving legal requirements.<\/p>\n

Teamwork is central to this role. You will work alongside fellow legal professionals and actively contribute to initiatives that support a\u00a0coherent, forward\u2011looking legal and IP strategy<\/strong>\u00a0across imec.<\/p>\n

Who you are<\/h4>\n

  • Holder of a\u00a0Master\u2019s degree in Law<\/strong>, with at least\u00a03 years of experience in contract law and intellectual property law<\/strong>, ideally within an R&D or technology\u2011driven environment; experience with regulatory compliance is a plus<\/li>\n
  • Affinity with\u00a0intellectual property\u2011intensive collaborations<\/strong>\u00a0and technology transfer contexts<\/li>\n
  • Clear, concise, and focused communicator in\u00a0English<\/strong>; knowledge of Dutch, or willingness to learn, is encouraged<\/li>\n
  • Diplomatic, solution\u2011oriented, and confident in exercising independent legal judgment<\/li>\n
